Industry Experts Review Best Practices & Examine Critical Issues at Jersey’s Inaugural Private Wealth Management Conference

29 June 2011

At a sell-out event yesterday, delegates attending the Private Wealth Management Conference at the Royal Yacht Hotel were treated to a diverse range of topics in order to assist with meeting the rising demand of ‘value for money’ from private clients.

Presented by the Jersey International Business School, in association with Rathbones, the conference was the first of its kind to harness in the latest wealth management industry trends, portfolio management techniques, opportunities and threats from emerging markets, and geopolitical outlook, amongst others.

“The breadth of expert views, and their thoughtful delivery, stimulated much debate and will undoubtedly influence delegates' decision-making over the second half of this year and into 2012. A day when everyone clearly rose to the challenges facing their clients and the wealth management industry in general.” JONATHAN GILES, MANAGING DIRECTOR, RATHBONE INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT INTERNATIONAL

Feedback from delegates have included comments on the clever format of on-stage interviews with the Conference Chairman, Johann (Hans) Baerlocher, former Managing Director of UBS, CI., which gave speakers further opportunity to explore the theme of ‘Successful Strategies for Growth’.

Key take-aways include:

  • ‘Robust decision-making in family governance’, from Caroline Garnham (Lawrence Graham)
  • ‘CI centres to be reviewed as premium for wealth-planning opportunities’, from Richard Hay (Stikeman Elliott)
  • ‘Investment rates are likely to remain low’, from David Coombs (Rathbones)
  • Colin Powell CBE, outlined the importance of Jersey’s role and level of participation in developing territorial standards.
