CPD Plus Seminar Series 2011-2012

Now in its 8th year the CPD Plus Seminar Series is a trusted source of Continued Professional Development training and updating for industry professionals in Jersey. It brings together experts to deliver digestible, high impact seminars on relevant topics to the finance industry over a 12 month period.

The series consists of twelve 60-75 minute monthly seminars and will be held at the centrally located Royal Yacht Hotel, Weighbridge. Delivered by leading industry professionals from the UK, Jersey and Europe, each talk will be followed by an ‘open floor’ question and answer session providing a more vibrant and interactive CPD training opportunity. To reduce office disruption the seminars run from 4pm-5.15pm.

Flexible, relevant and cost-effective, delegates can attend 12 seminars plus one bonus session. Natalie Dimond, Director of Operations at Jersey International Business School comments,

The series commences on Thursday 21 April at The Royal Yacht with Stephen Platt, Director, Barrister, Adjunct Professor from the Jersey International Business School, who will be delivering a seminar on ‘Developments in ‘Threat Finance’ (Anti-Money Laundering/ Counter-Terrorism Financing/ Proliferation/Corruption)’.

Stephen Platt
Stephen is a barrister at 23 Essex Street, London; Executive Director of the Jersey International Business School and an Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Law at Georgetown University, Washington D.C. In recent years he has lectured at a number of European universities as well as the World Bank, the United Nations, the National Criminal Intelligence Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department and the US Department of Justice.

Stephen is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost experts specialising in the regulation of financial services and financial crime in and through offshore financial centres. He is frequently engaged in politically sensitive matters involving the recovery of the proceeds of political corruption.
In 2009 Stephen was appointed by the UN and World Bank as a ‘core expert’ on the StAR anti corruption initiative.

With additional expertise in sanctions, Stephen regularly advises some of the world’s largest non-US banks on the risks of criminal and civil liability resulting from breaches of Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions and Anti Terror Act Legislation. He delivers a range of risk management and sanctions training programmes to the banking industry in the UK on behalf of the British Banker’s Association.
