Stress is habit-forming and can lead to self-medication with caffeine, sugar and alcohol resulting in memory lapse, weight gain and irritability, with sufferers experiencing heightened anxiety when attempting to meet deadlines - all of these factors have potential to lead to a decline in efficiency and productivity. As these health problems reach epidemic proportions, and continue to have impact on job satisfaction, career progression and business development there is a definite need to try and find a solution. Poor management of teams is also a significant contributing factor to stress levels in the workplace.
The Jersey International Business School has organised a workshop entitled ‘Breaking the Stress Habit’ in association with Dr Alyssa Burns-Hill, PhD, which will take place at the Business School on Monday 24 September from 12pm to 2pm (£50). This focussed session will help to build a solid understanding of what stress is and the implications for a workforce. Delegates will be introduced to strategies to help them to identify stress in others and provide tools to offer management support without stigma or intrusion.
Dr Alyssa Burns-Hill PhD is a professional health educator who specialises in dealing with health problems that cause stress, depression, anxiety, and fatigue. Alyssa is able to bring her clinical and academic experience into the corporate context as she has experience in management consultancy, working on key projects with companies such as Generali and Total.
