RBS International cements partnership with business school to support degree course

12 July 2012

RBS International is working in partnership with the Jersey International Business School to support the launch of a new finance degree course with The University of Buckingham.

The BSc (Hons) in International Financial Services is being offered by the Business School to students with the appropriate A level grades and will enable them to study for the degree through a top twenty ranked university* over a two year period in Jersey rather than having to attend university in the UK.

RBS International will offer two people on the degree course the opportunity to work two days a week at the Bank. The successful candidates will be offered paid structured work placements throughout the duration of the degree in different parts of the Bank including retail, operations, corporate and treasury giving them a broad experience of the local banking environment.

In partnership with Jersey International Business School, RBS International is also providing this opportunity to existing employees of the Bank who will be able to apply along with A-level school leavers and mature students provided they meet the necessary entry requirements. School leavers applying for a place on the course will need to have obtained three A-levels with a minimum two Cs and one B grade. The Bank will then conduct a rigorous selection process before selecting two candidates.

The partnership with the Business School complements the Bank’s existing work experience and graduate recruitment programme and its support for the States of Jersey Advance to Work programme.

Adrian Gill 300Adrian Gill, Chief Executive, RBS International, commented:

“Industry in Jersey should do all it can to encourage our young people to learn the skills they need to enjoy a successful career. This top ranking university degree course established by Jersey International Business School is a welcome addition to the opportunities available locally and we are delighted to support it. The chosen applicants will gain first hand knowledge of working in all areas of the banking industry in Jersey, while studying for their degree and we hope it ends with both candidates obtaining full time employment with us upon completion of the course. Education is a key theme within our overall corporate social responsibility strategy and this degree programme fits perfectly with that.”

Chris Usher, Director of Client Relations at Jersey International Business School, added:

“I am absolutely delighted that RBS International are supporting the Jersey International Business School’s new BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree. The high standard of the academic programme will be complimented by the opportunity for students to undertake a range of world class on-the-job training with one of the world’s best known banks. Since the degree is awarded by one of the UK's leading universities, The University of Buckingham, we believe this combination will provide participants with a superb opportunity for a career in international finance.”

Those interested in obtaining more information on RBS International’s support of the programme should contact Steve Scott, RBS International’s HR Director on telephone 285581or Steve.Scott@rbsint.com.
